In Book III, Son offers his life in Adam’s place, saying, “Behold me then: me for him, life for life I offer; on me let thine anger fall;” God ordains that he will become Man through wondrous birth, calls him his beloved Son, and appoints him universal King with everlasting power. In Book V, God proclaims him Messiah and ruler of Heaven, commanding the angels to bow to him.

In Book VI, at God’s command, the Messiah drives the rebellious angels out of Heaven and into Hell, then returns victorious to sit at God’s right hand. In Book VII, God sends him with the Spirit of God to create Heaven and Earth from Chaos, and the Son sets the world’s bounds with golden compasses. In Book X, God appoints him to judge humanity; in Book XI, God accepts his intercession for repentant humanity, granting reconciliation and delaying death. In Book XII, the Son is foretold as the deliverer descended from David and the seed promised to Abraham; his act will defeat Satan, Sin, and Death, and he will triumph over the Serpent.
